Sonancias III Op. 49 for two pianos and two percussions, by Marlos Nobre is particularly significative because of the revelation of a powerful, individual and extremely expressive style, in which various former experiments with rhythm, harmonic and formal elements are combined together in a unique way. This work clearly indicates the beginning of the maturity of one of the most creative personalities in the contemporary Brazilian composition (Gerard Béhague, Latin American Music Review, Volume 17, nº 1, spring/summer 1996, University of Texas). The  Sonata for two pianos and percussion is one of the masterworks by Béla Bartók. Her complex magnitude takes shape when the ruled paper turns into sound waves conjugated in the air. In spite of the fact that its predominantly rhythmical and percussive character is present also in the majority of the piano articulations, it does not abandon the melodic component and the richness of the timbre. This Sonata was written in 1937 and is performed, as well as with  the two pianos, with two percussionists that share tuned instruments (three kettledrums and a xylophone)and various not tuned instruments (bass drum, two drums –with and without bass string-, suspended cymbals, cymbals, gong and triangle).
